Does what it says on the boxReview date: 2010-09-06 Rating: 8 out of 10I had to shred both old cuttings and new. Definately copes better (excellently in fact) with new wood, so a lesson learnt there. Not to say that it didn't cope with the old wood, just took a little longer.
Very pleased with the product and now got lots of mulch for the garden, which I used to buy every year, so the shredder will pay for itself in a couple of years.
If you are looking for a medium sized shredder then the Bosch AXT2200 fits the bill.
Reviews
better than expected shredderReview date: 2010-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10Only used twice but loads of vegitation condensed to just a couple of bags in no time. So far having read lots of reviews i have made certain to avoid stones, grit, large twigs. So far cuts very well, no blockages, and i don't think as noisy as my electric hedge trimmers. Perhaps problems will come later, but early days and i am very happy.BrilliantReview date: 2010-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10Read a lot of reviews before finally settling on this as my first ever shredder. Love it. Got a whole tree (barring trunk and bigger branches) into 7 bin bags. Trips down the tip are so much easier now! Have not managed to block it up yet, if you follow the instructions all should be fine. Noise? no louder than my lawn mower - or the dogs next door.Easy to put together and fits quite nicely into the shed. Of course the blade is going to get blunt eventually - hope they are easy to replace. The plastic 'plunger thingy' ? supplied to push the bits into the machine is invaluable and a brilliant bit of simple design - very effective. This is just right for my garden (doesn't really matter what size). Can mulch or compost the product. I just put a bucket underneath to catch the bits (don't need the bag).Biggest benefit is cutting trips to tip in the car - not having to cram/saw and pack everything in as tight as possible. This is the one to get!A good ShredderReview date: 2010-09-02 Rating: 8 out of 10The Bosch Shredder is a good buy. It deals with woody material very easily as long as it isn't overloaded. It is not so good with wet plant material as it tends to collect in the cutting area and clog the exit. However freeing a jam is quick and easy. Buy a spare blade at the time of purchase, You will need it.Caveat emptorReview date: 2010-08-30 Rating: 4 out of 10You should not buy this machine without first seeing it in operation.
Before going farther, let me describe some of its virtues. It has a willing motor; it is not especially prone to jamming, and when it jams it is quickly cleared; it is stable, reasonably quiet, and easily moved around. The plastic plunger and hopper flaps have stood up well to eight months' use.
The trouble is that due to the design of the shredder blade and guides it doesn't shred very well. You get a mixture of powder, leaves and battered sticks. Forsythia will go through in meter lengths. Raspberry canes get split rather than shredded. So you do need to try it out on the sort of material you expect to use it for.
Comparatively minor grumbles: the hopper is shallow, so you can't just pour clippings into it; no shredder is going to be happy with gravel chips, but this one chews its blade up particularly fast; and the safety switch for the shredding compartment cover is temperamental to the point that you may be tempted to disable it.
